Motherhood

Because I’m scared I might forget

geoorgieeI have a diary I plan to give to Georgie when he’s older. I’ve had it since I was pregnant. In the beginning I would write about doctor appointments and various stuff papa and I would do before he came into our lives. Later on I would write about his baby ways and the many sleepless nights. However lately I have not written anything. I felt a pang of anxiety recently when I tried to remember something Georgie said that made me laugh and I couldn’t. Why didn’t I write it down just like I do with everything else? So these little notes are for me and my baby because I’m scared I might forget.

His favourite food is bread. Toasted or not with jam or honey.

He ‘reads’ before he sleeps, which means his bed is always full of books. We have to remove them after he’s fallen asleep otherwise he’s bound to poke an eye out on one of the hard corners.

He loves puzzles and building stuff with Lego bricks.

He can watch Peppa Pig all day, every day.

He does not like potatoes.

This year he learnt how to write his name.

He gets really excited about certain things and he shows it with plenty of super-tight hugs and hard-core kisses.

He is unbelievably considerate for a four year old. The other day he made me so stinking proud when out of the blue he grabbed a blanket and gave it to a friend who was holding her sleeping baby.

He always wants to help me when I’m cooking or baking. ‘Can I cut? Can I stir? Can I break the eggs?’

His cousin let him borrow one of his toy motorbikes for a few days. He slept, ate and bathed with it. Once he had to give it back he did and even said ‘thank you’.

He fake laughs all the time and I love it.

He’s a very fast runner. I call him Dash (from The Incredibles).

His dad is his idol, his hero, his favourite person.

A few months ago, I asked what he wants to be when he grows up. He said: ‘I want to be a mummy, like you!’

He puts all our shoes in long bending lines.

I tell him I love him many times a day. I hope HE never forgets that.
