What kind of music do your young kids listen to?

Music has always been my favourite way to unwind and de-stress. Turning on the radio or clicking play on my computer screen or spinning a record on a Saturday morning is just a way of life for me. Besides almost nothing can beat a spontaneous dance session in the kitchen with your child.

georgie's mummy musicMy love for music is something I inherited from my dad. He made sure that, from a very young age, I would learn to love and appreciate good music. Although he likes to joke that he ‘lost me’ the moment I announced I was an Elvis fan, we share a passion for The Beatles, Willie Nelson, The Rolling Stones and many others.

Georgie’s first connection to music was made with Bob Marley’s Exodus album. Definitely not my dad’s cup of tea but the sounds of reggae and Bob’s voice worked wonders on me, a tired new mummy, and on my baby. I think Three Little Birds was the first song I sang to him in the clinic hours after he was born.

Today we listen to a mixture of tunes. From AC/DC to Nirvana and Oasis, Bruce Springsteen, Fleetwood Mac, Amy Winehouse, some classic 80s and 90s tune and many others. I like to mix it up by turning on the radio every afternoon and tuning into a great radio station like U Radio.

Georgie loves The Beatles. His two favourite songs are I Wanna Hold Your Hand and Get Together. He can name all four band members and likes telling the story of how a bad man shot John Lennon. He also likes telling people that Elvis died because he ate too many sweets. Michael Jackson died because he was very sick. All this brought on the inevitable question one day: Mummy are all the singers we like dead? We’re currently working on that.
