Let’s walk – The Teddy Bear Walk

Every night before I kiss my son goodnight, I tuck him in and say I Love You. With his teddybear by his side, I close my eyes for just a second, and express my gratitude because I am able to keep my baby warm and safe from harm. There isn’t any way that I can begin to imagine the horror of not being able to do just that: Keep my child safe.

The refugee crisis has brought and continues to bring tears to my eyes. And yet I don’t change the channel when I see those horrible images on the 8 o’clock news and I definitely don’t appreciate it when they are blurred. I need to see and know the reality of this situation. Everybody does because behind every cold, frightened or dead child is a parent like you and me who needs our help.

While, as a family, we have done the least we could by donating clothes and in some cases food and healthcare products, we all know there’s always more to do.

That’s why on November 15, papa, Georgie and I will be taking part in The Teddy Bear Walk, an event organised by the Bearfoot ‘Children helping Children’ initiative specifically to raise money for Save The Children’s Child Refugee Crisis Appeal. It is a wonderful cause and one that I am especially excited to be participating in because it will be Georgie’s introduction to the world of charity work, something I have been looking forward to doing with him since becoming a mother.

The Teddy Bear Walk

The Teddy Bear Walk will be the perfect way to get Georgie involved because he, along with the rest of the children participating, will be giving one of his teddybears to a refugee child as well as being tasked with collecting sponsorship money. An after-party will be held at the St Raphael Resort in Limassol for kids and grown ups and plenty of activities and stalls.

To get involved and take part in the walk, by November 8 you must email bearfootchildren@gmail.com to receive a registration form and information pack.

Let’s do this! Hope to see you all there on November 15.
