Motherhood

Life at the moment

Only a few days left before our holidays commence and we make our way to a hotel by the beach. You can imagine how much we (me) are looking forward to it. Although, as I said to a friend the other day, holidaying with a newborn is unchartered territory so I’m not sure if I should even bother taking a book with me! But honestly who cares? No cleaning or cooking for one whole week! Yay!

The BFG was showing at the mall and seeing as I have successfully managed to turn my little dude into a huge Roald Dahl fan we were both super excited about grabbing a big bag of popcorn and catching Spielberg’s adaptation of the book. I left slightly disappointed. Georgie couldn’t stop talking about it all the way home.

That day James was left with his yiayia along with a generous amount of pumped breastmilk. I couldn’t believe how easy it was to just drop him off and go. I remember the first time I left Georgie for a couple of hours. It felt weird like I was missing a leg or something. Not this time. It actually felt good to have some one-on-one time with my number one little dude. I think we both needed it.

During the week, while Georgie is at summer school and whenever I’m not glued to Netflix (I’ve moved on to House of Cards) I’ve been tackling house projects, visiting my grandparents in Larnaca and spending time with my parents and siblings. And it’s been so nice to be able to do these things. Our weekends are always greatly anticipated because that’s when papa is home and we get to spend time together with friends who have been coming bearing ice cream and cakes, burgers and fries, souvlakia and other goodies.

As for me, myself and I, after a month and a half of giving birth things are better than expected. I am gradually learning to accept my postpartum body which now boasts a few stretch marks and boobs that are out of control. Editing my wardrobe and putting way clothes that still won’t fit has helped alot as have the sales. I’ve picked up a few bits and pieces that will see me through the rest of the summer and make me feel good about myself. I even managed to book a hair appointment for some sun-kissed highlights that have undoubtedly boosted my summer mood. That time I took James along with me. Breastfeeding in a hair salon? Pff..done!
