Almost two years ago, while I was researching our Christmas trip to Paris, which never happened in December but in April instead, I discovered something that changed my life.
How to make proper hot chocolate. The French way. You see, there’s something special about this picture: curling up on the sofa with the warmth of the fireplace on your cheeks sipping on a mug of hot chocolate. But in order for this picture to be perfect you need this secret ingredient. Believe me.
So what is it? A bar of dark good-quality chocolate. Not powder but pieces of chocolate. This is how you achieve the creamiest, deepest and darkest cup of hot chocolate. So all you do is melt some chopped pieces of dark chocolate in some milk. Whole fat is recommended by most but you can use skimmed or any other you prefer.
Since 70% dark chocolate can leave a bitter aftertaste make sure you use some type of sweetener. We like to add marshmallows but you can go for sugar or whipping cream which works as a great topping.
