Liked- children’s bedrooms

I like looking at pictures of other people’s homes. I’m not too keen on catalogue looks but I do like a space with character and a good dose of mix and match. I like thinking about the type of person who lives there, the story behind an object but most of all I like the good old plain inspiration I get from the colours, the materials, the ideas and the practicality of a space. It’s just something I like to do.

In the kitchen- spinach and chickpea sauté with fried bread toasts

Confession time: chickpeas= yuck! At least that is what I thought before trying this absolutely gorgeous delicious mouth-watering recipe. I was scouring PInterest when it just called to me! I love the addition of the fried bread toast but I will admit I wasn’t too impressed with the little bit more preparation time it needed. You have to chop up little bits of bread, use a food processor, keep the spices coming, etc… Actually that’s probably the reason it is so bloody good! Give this recipe a go because even if you don’t like chickpeas, you’ll still be impressed. READ MORE

odd ends – the new edition

The new edition of Odd Ends comes with brief descriptions.

1. His new Vans had arrived the previous day so he was very happy to pose with them on. I think this is actually my new favourite picture of my boy.

2. My sister’s dog followed us on a walk through the beautiful fields next to our house.

3. Georgie took his monstrosity of a jeep out for a ride to grandma’s house.

Food, let's play

boy in the kitchen!

A month ago, while we were decorating our Christmas tree, Georgie asked for pancakes for dinner. So, I dropped what I was doing and headed to the kitchen with him to whip up a batch. Georgie stood on his little stool and waited for me to gather all the ingredients. He then helped me scoop out the exact measurements with that cute toddler steadiness and then he cracked open two eggs with one hand. We began mixing away when my mother-in-law began laughing. She couldn’t believe how well Georgie was handling himself and the whole process. He is indeed a great sous chef and I could not be prouder. I smile when he starts cleaning and cups his hand under the kitchen counter to catch those crumbs. READ MORE

A resolution of sorts

Every night, before I nod off, I like to plan the next day in my head. I schedule appointments and chores if they are on the itinerary and then I concentrate on Georgie and activities we could do together. It only takes a few minutes and somehow it makes falling asleep much easier.

And then the New Year flies in and sleep doesn’t come easy. I find myself staring into space, willing my head and heart to come up with a bigger and broader plan. Yes, I’m talking about a resolution of sorts. Last year I promised to change some things I felt were holding me back and I am so glad I did. I NEED the same this year.  There’s so much I want to do, to achieve and to accomplish, my mind spins with excitement one minute but the next I am glued to the telly watching TV shows and chomping on popcorn. I think this slumped upset has to do with the fact that this year signifies a massive inevitable change in my life: Georgie will start pre-school in September. I feel THAT will be the time for resolutions. For now, I’ll stick to some basics, things I have been dreaming of for a while now. Listing them here on the blog, will hopefully make them more real, generate some excitement and bring clarity to my confused mind.
