I wouldn’t say I am a fan of the hype that comes with Valentine’s Day. At least not anymore. But it is a celebration of love and I am totally cool with that. Also I happen to have a cute little Valentine’s story to share. I remember one particular Valentine’s Day when I was no more than 16. I had had the sweetest boyfriend for a couple of months and the day of love was coming up so I did what is expected. Teddy bears, cards and various red and pink knick knacks with hearts smothered all over were purchased. We broke up two months later but remained friends. The type of friends who invite each other to their weddings! So, after more than ten years, one day I went to his house to invite him to my wedding. After a brisk chat with his mum, he took me to a cupboard where he revealed something so special I can’t help but smile every time I think of it. There, he kept a box of items from his childhood and one little gift I gave him on that Valentine’s Day.

Like me, my sister is an avid baker. Unlike me, she’s also a brilliant cake designer. You can see her beautifully-crafted cakes for all occasions here. What she does is truly amazing since every single detail on her cakes is made, moulded and rolled by hand. More on this in a future post because right now I really need to tell you about these cinnamon rolls she made last week. They’re such a classic and to be honest, never have been my favourite but that has definitely changed.
I remember those first weeks as a mother. There’s rarely any time to shower and wash your face let alone paint your nails and put on some makeup. I remember waiting for my sister or mum to come by and watch Georgie while I washed my hair – anyone who knows me and my hair, knows how long that can take. In between dirty nappies and colic attacks, I learnt how to master a topknot and embrace my skin with no foundation to aid in hiding every single imperfection. To be honest though, during those first months, I noticed that my skin had never looked so good. I am told that breastfeeding will do that to you.
Is anyone else enjoying this absolutely fantastic weather? We knew Sunday would be a beautiful sunny day (thanks weather app!) so we made plans to take Georgie out for the day. We piled into the car and headed for a quick lunch before making our way to Melios Zoo just outside of Nicosia. I know its been a popular spot for families for years but for some reason our family had never been. Can I just say how pleasantly surprised we all were? The zoo is packed with thousands of colourful stunning birds that will make you marvel at nature and its ability to create such creatures while the hyenas, buffalos, zebras and kangaroos are definitely worth seeing. The grounds are clean, gorgeous and overflowing with trees, bushes and aromatic shrubs. There’s an impressive playground situated right next to a cafeteria so after our long walk around the zoo, we sat down for a cup of tea while Georgie played. Overall a day well-spent, thoroughly enjoyed by kids and grown-ups.
It’s been a while since I posted some links. The Parent Hood, I have noticed, is popular here on the blog so I’m hoping to keep it strong this year. Here goes:
One of my favourite bloggers, Joanna Goddard, posted an awesome article about how to get kids to eat vegetables. Here, you’ll find some cool and simple tips to ensure no veggies are left on their plate.
