1. I love Frances McDormand. After watching this short clip of her speaking about aging, I admire her even more.

2. Inspiration for the modern mama.

3. I WILL make this macrame curtain soon. The step-by-step instructions are fantastic and make it look so easy.

4. Ready packaged fruit, veg and pre-washed bags of salad may be a time-saver but are they as healthy as we think?

How to encourage kids to dress themselves

Our mornings have become much easier since Georgie started dressing himself. At 4 years old, it’s obvious he’s ready. Also, ‘No mama! I can do it! Don’t help me!’ was a clear indication.

If your child is at the stage of seeking his or her independence then you’ll probably know that in the beginning  the whole process can actually take longer! It’s a trying time, waiting patiently as they study their pants, shoving their legs in the wrong hole and then putting their trousers over their head. You feel like yanking the clothes away and doing it yourself but you don’t need me to tell you that is wrong.

Mummy Beautiful// 05

This week’s Mummy Beautiful: Sotira Menicou, mother of three.

What is your daytime skincare routine? Every morning I cleanse my skin with Elemis Pro-Radiance Cream Cleanser, then I tone with Elemis Soothing Apricot Toner. I follow that with two drops of Pro-Collagen Advanced Eye Treatment and Pro-Collagen Quartz Lift Serum to the face. I also use the Pro-Collagen Lifting Neck and Marine Cream followed by Elemis’ Liquid Layer Sunblock with a SPF 30. I follow this routine every morning including brushing my teeth.

Last night, I finally decided to give into Mr Christian Grey and see what all the hype is about. Instead of laughing my head off, which was what I was expecting, I was actually deeply bothered. For those not aware of the name, I am referring to the world’s newest fascination and the male lead in 50 Shades of Grey. I was not bothered by Mr Grey’s idea of a good time – to each his own-but by the fact that apparently over 100 million women bought and read this book and actually liked it thus creating a monster and a boring one at that! Girls, this is not good stuff. Please spend your money on books that are worth your time. The writing is extremely bad and furthermore if Sam Taylor-Johnson couldn’t save the movie version, then you know its a hopeless case. When I heard that the irresistible Charlie Hunnam had pulled out of his role as Christian Grey, I was disappointed and I get the impression I’m not the only one. Have you seen him? Anyway, I can imagine Hunnam waking up, sweaty and shaky, remembering the moment he almost took part in what is sure to be the worst story ever told. Rolling Stone said it best: The true audiences for 50 Shades of Grey are gluttons for punishment-by boredom!

The Big Bad Wolf DIY No Sew costume

Last week was World Book Day, which meant that soon after Carnival, Georgie was given another opportunity to dress up. The problem with a four-year old and dressing up as a book character is that apart from Dr Seuss and Peter Rabbit there isn’t much else. I tried convincing him that The Cat in the Hat would look nice but his heart was stuck on The Big Bad Wolf, the mean protagonist of a few tales. There was absolutely no way I was going to rent or buy and besides I was being given the chance to actually MAKE him a costume, something I have always wanted to do. I turned to books, blogs and DIY posts but soon stopped in my tracks when I found this awesome and absolutely fantastic DIY wolf costume. Lia Griffith, you are awesome and absolutely fantastic!
