My last blog post of the year 2020 has been written multiple times and deleted just as many. I wasn’t even sure what I wanted to say about the closing of this bizarre year, nothing makes complete and utter sense to me anymore. But lying in bed last night I thought about all the ways I managed the weirdness, insecurity and uncertainty of 2020 and how I somewhat stayed afloat by distracting myself, learning and unlearning, filling my cup with new information, more knowledge and personal stories. Here follows a blog post with some of the books, films, documentaries, podcasts and music that helped me get through 2020 in their own special way.
Music
The last time I posted a mix tape or mixed tape, was shortly before I had James, in 2016. It was my labour list. So here’s a Mix Tape comeback post with some tunes I’ve been listening to lately.
Music has always been my favourite way to unwind and de-stress. Turning on the radio or clicking play on my computer screen or spinning a record on a Saturday morning is just a way of life for me. Besides almost nothing can beat a spontaneous dance session in the kitchen with your child.
When the time comes, having the right music available and on hand is very important to me so I made two labour playlists.
One is called Labour. The other Slow Labour.
One is packed with rock songs, classics I love to dance to and other weird and wonderful favourites that hold good memories for me. The other makes me cry. Ha! I meant, chill. Both have voices I love and tunes that make me happy.
Yes, it’s been ages since my last mixed tape but I promise this one is a good one. Click play and turn up the volume.
If you can’t listen to this playlist it means you’re not on Spotify. It doesn’t take long to sign up for a Spotify account so go ahead and do it. There’s no reason you shouldn’t if you like music because it’s free and there’s no limit to what you can listen to.
