I’ve become a huge fan of Instagram. I might be a bit ‘late’ discovering this amazing app but better late than never, right? With the help of special filters you can upload beautiful pictures, very 70s and very cool, for everyone to admire and take inspiration from. I picked up this rocking babygro at the Werchter Festival and found it complimented my Smurf-coloured toenails, perfectly. I would like to say: Look at my beautiful new maxi dress but I fear Tano and his new ‘haircut’ have stolen my thunder. Papa was supposed to drop him off before we left on our trip, for a shampoo and blowdry. Georgie’s godfather, who was kind enough to take Tano in while we were away, called me that night to tell me that he was convinced the girl at the pet store place gave him the wrong dog. He sent me a picture and papa got an earful. But if I’m being honest, i quite like it. No more long thick dog hairs and he seems happier and lighter. Sushi delivery! It was a Friday ritual for months before Georgie was born and unfortunately it was never picked up again. Until this Friday when it was sushi and movies all the way. Vintage-inspired postcards from Amsterdam. An extract from John Holt’s Learning All The Time, an eye-opening book on how children learn by themselves how to read and write. I haven’t finished it yet. A few months ago I discovered Goodbyn, a cute tupperware style lunch bag. So far I’ve taken it to the beach and the park, many times. Basically it’s perfect for snacks and a light lunch. I’m hoping it will come in handy when Georgie needs one for pre-school.
let’s play
The past three days have been a lesson to me. DON’T LEAVE YOUR CHILD …ever. Actually I’m only joking…well, kind of. You see, I’m sure my little dude is feeling a little low. He seems to whine about everything and has also learnt how to stomp his feet. I don’t even think it’s something he’s learnt; it looks natural when he does it but boy, does it piss me off. Seriously. He’s not his usual happy self. Perhaps he is reacting to the separation. I certainly am; being extra patient and allowing him to hoover anytime he feels like it. I’ve been making smoothies and wearing dresses, taking my baby for an afternoon ride to the beach and walking barefoot. But his behavior still bothers me. I fear we have entered the tantrum stage. And I know I need to nip it in the bud but how, especially when you have those eyes looking right at you?!
Even at the moment I was clicking on the ‘book now’ icon, I wasn’t really sure if what I was doing was ‘right’. I would be enjoying five whole days with friends I love, in a gorgeous European city, photographing all day, drinking coffee, smoking cigarettes, buying quirky bits and bobs, walking through parks…but without my baby. With only three days to go, how is this going to work, mummy?
Last night, we ordered in but I was in the mood to make dessert so I whipped up some strawberry tarts – technically i didn’t bake anything. The tart cases were ready. Oops. I did make the custard from scratch and the strawberries were organic so all eight tarts were scrumptious.
I saved one for Georgie because he hasn’t tasted the sweetness that is custard yet- I know! Ridiculous, right? Picture taken with brand spanking new iPad! For some bizarre reason, he took the strawberries off before giving it a go. He then of course devoured the berries and waved his hands around for more.
Since I became pregnant I’ve been keeping a diary. For Georgie. I don’t know why but a couple of months after I found out I was pregnant and when we knew it was a boy, I suddenly felt the urge to ‘talk’ to him. I felt I had things to say. Even if it is just mentioning a doctor’s appointment or a film I have watched, every few weeks I open this little leather pad and ‘talk’ to my baby. Everytime, I imagine him reading it and asking me to fill him in on the details of events I have written about. It’s funny to think how far away that time is but it wasn’t that long ago that I bought this little leather pad and sat down to write the first time.
