Georgie turns 5

This week it was Georgie’s birthday. He is now 5 years old.

I get a bit emotional at his birthdays, when he blows out the candles and I realise how bloody quickly time goes by. I hugged him tight on the morning of his birthday and whispered the words ‘my baby’ to which he replied: ‘No mama. I am now 5 years old so I am not a baby anymore.’ I made it abundantly clear that no matter how old he is he will always be MY baby. If you follow me on Instagram you can catch me singing happy birthday to Georgie as he was waking up with a smile on his face.

Learning numbers with a cool number book

Georgie is at that awesome stage where he can count and even read words. I almost cried a couple of weeks ago when he read a short sentence to me. One of the top moments of my life. Hands down.

One thing I do often, especially when I need to keep him distracted for a while, is write down simple additions and subtractions for him to do. So far he really enjoys this little activity and I love watching and listening to him count with his fingers.

After school: Asking the right questions

Let’s skip that in ten years a remark like that will probably scar me for life and go straight to the fact that it was obvious I was asking the wrong question.

Advent village

Yay! It’s December 1 so I guess the kids can break open those advent calendars. I had my eye on a couple for Georgie and then yesterday I came across the most excellent advent DIY idea ever so I hurriedly gathered all the supplies and began making an advent village! I had the first 15 houses ready by this morning and plan on finishing up tonight. I just love looking it at especially with all those twinkling lights. I don’t think I’ll be filling them all just yet though because Georgie keeps peeking inside.

Favourite movies for kids

I bet your feelings regarding screen time were the same as mine before you had kids. You were probably disgusted by those parents at the restaurant who would readily hand over tablets and mobile phones. When you went to your friend’s house who already had kids you would secretly cringe at the child seated in front of the telly.
