munching in the fresh air

There seemed to be a light breeze in the air today which meant that Georgie could play outside. I grabbed some awesome lunch from Get Fresh and headed to the park. There wasn’t a soul around. Georgie had the playground all to himself.

Today I realized that being at the park surrounded by trees, dirt, sticks and stones is the only place where he really enjoys himself and doesn’t ‘need’ me. At some point, he was sitting in the same position for at least five minutes…A book or a magazine may have come in handy. He NEVER sits still for one minute, let alone five! I guess it’s nature’s effect.        Picked up this shopping bag yesterday and already it has made my life easier.        Overall, a beautiful day.

breaking the routine

When papa called on Friday afternoon to tell me we were spending the weekend by the beach, I swear i did a little dance. Georgie was off to his grandmother’s for the night so that gave me plenty of time to pack for me and a busy 16-month old. I change him on average twice a day and that’s not including his pajamas. So the point was not to not overdo it with the packing…but then again, we’ll be at the beach, I thought to myself, which means he’ll be needing at least two shirts for each day… Next, snacks! And nappies for the water! Anyway, I like to think I didn’t take that much for one night.

the zoo

Sunday marked Georgie’s first time at the zoo…and therefore our first time at a zoo as parents! It was such a fun day spent with friends and feeding a giraffe. I’ve seen one up close before but I forget how beautiful these animals are. Truly astonishing. I actually think all the adults were giddier than the kids.   The Pafos Zoo used to be just a bird park. Definitely worth the visit but as a zoo it is a must-see. I will admit I am torn at the idea of zoos and keeping animals caged up. They always look miserable. But my feelings don’t run as strong as they do about feckin circuses! Such cruelty! Anyhoo, here, you get the chance to see all sorts of furry, feathered friends. And some not.   If I had to pick a low of the day it would be the heat! Seriously! Despite applying to myself and Georgie a whole tube of sunscreen, I still got red sore shoulders. Thinking of it now though, I must admit I enjoyed the walking and sweating. It meant I was burning off some serious pizza calories.   So before you get to see any big cats, there’s a cute little traditional Cyprus house set up complete with cooking utensils and chickens and rabbits in the front yard!   The highlight of my day was, without a doubt, the moment Georgie reached out and fed the giraffe a leaf. I melted.

flood festival

The annual Flood Festival was celebrated this weekend. I’m not sure exactly why we celebrate it with festivals, truckloads of food and drink …oh and by throwing water at people or chilling on the beach but the whole point is to just get wet…which consequently means that this weekend, Georgie was UNSTOPPABLE!    On Saturday S and G’s godfather joined us for a trip to the beach. Having those extra hands was heaven for me! thanks guys!   The festival is set up along the beachfront selling all sorts of goodies from food to antiques!   Seeing as the flood festival entails a three-day weekend and more getting wet, we spent the afternoon doing exactly that…only this time. it was war!
