A big thank you to all you lovely people who sent warm wishes, flowers, plants and gifts our way. It felt wonderful to know that so many share our happiness and excitement in welcoming James.
Our little guy is three weeks old and fitting into our family life perfectly. I relish our quiet mornings when papa takes Georgie to summer school and we’re able to snuggle in bed. I love that I get to do this just as I did with Georgie when he was a newborn. Perhaps the only difference is that this time I have a TV in the bedroom. And Netflix. I started watching Orange Is the New Black when we were in the clinic and now I’m glued. So it’s my new favourite thing to do while breastfeeding. And it’s also one of the reasons I have been slacking on posting here on the blog. Oops!
So Georgie is an absolute gem. The perfect big brother who drowns James with kisses and hugs and sweet words. The other day he told him that he would be spending the night at yiayia’s but that that did not mean he wouldn’t miss him and he doesn’t love him. Once a day he still squeals with excitement that he now has a baby brother. “I can’t believe it! I can’t believe it!” It is one of the most adorable things ever!
I’ve spent these past few days in my pyjamas, moving from one air-conditioned room to another, boobs hanging out, trails of breast pads behind me and hair in a sort-of topknot. Not a pretty sight and very typical, I know. However I did successfully manage to get dressed and go out on more than one occasion thanks to my parents who are willing to drive me to the supermarket or to Nero for a decaf ice Americano and a blueberry muffin. I said ‘Absolutely not!’ to our pediatrician when she recommended I switch to decaf while breastfeeding, mainly because I like my one coffee a day. But after I realised that there was a definite effect on James (colic, gas, fussiness) I caved. On the plus side I can have as many as I want! Urgh, who am I kidding? Decaf sucks!
Despite the sleepless nights and being stuck at home while everyone’s down at the beach, it goes without saying that papa and I are head over heels in love with our little dude. And I think that even we go through phases when we say the exact same thing Georgie says. We can’t believe we have another to love and adore and shower with kisses and hugs! We could not be prouder of our little family of four.
