I don’t know if it’s the eery sound of age creeping up on me or the realisation that some things (thighs, I’m talking to you) will never change but I am finally tuning into my skin and all its needs. Those monthly breakouts are yet to be tamed, I won’t lie, but overall my skin is in a much better state than it would have been if I continued to turn a snobbish nose to the sacred valley of beauty and skincare products. Wiping off make up and applying the occasional mask was about all I could muster when it came to caring for my skin. Probably the only thing I can say I did right by my skin is religiously applying sun protection for the last five years. You don’t want to hear about my ignorant youthful and bountiful use of baby oil because that’s just disgusting and I would really rather forget about it.
So here we are. Today. Much wiser. Perhaps still a tad ignorant and uneducated on certain matters of vanity. However I have learnt that there is an important method, some basic tools, if you like, that will almost guarantee a satisfying result. The method involves cleansing, toning and moisturising. Simple. These are the basic skin tools I like.
Aesop Parsley Seed Anti-Oxidant Eye Cream
is my latest splurge. I picked it up in Paris and so far…it works.
Almond oil has to be the best discovery I made. I have oily skin and for years I wouldn’t touch anything containing oil with a bargepole. Then I read about the decrease of natural moisture levels in the skin which can be caused by excessively drying it out. Opting for something as natural as oil, which I use after a shower, made sense to be used on the face too. It has worked wonders for my skin. I even use it on my lips.
Clarisonic Mia(TM) Skin Cleansing System Clarisonic baby! – Sorry. I do that when I’m excited. I bought it with a gift card I had stashed away. The Clarisonic has a vibrating brush that cleanses up to ten times deeper than your hands or cloth. You should see my skin after I use it! Sometimes I marvel at the cleanliness. Yes, marvel.
Avene Cleanance Anti-Shine Purifying Lotion
is an absolute must for oily skins and therefore unparalleled to anything else. It’s French, by the way. Is that a surprise? Here in Cyprus, you can find it in pharmacies too.
What’s in your skincare routine? I’d love to know.
