Georgie turned four this weekend. Thankfully, this came with a flurry of smiles, so much love and a sense of pride as opposed to sentimental shenanigans on my part, i.e locking myself in the bathroom so no one can see the tears right before he blows out the candles. Yes, it has happened. It’s natural to become emotional with each passing year, right? I still can’t believe he’s four yet but then again the changes I note on an everyday basis shake me up more than any number ever could. My baby is becoming a little man. He is my best friend and the reason I laugh out loud, almost every day. No exaggeration.
Last year, we had so much fun at Georgie’s 3rd birthday party. We had been living in our new home for a year, his birthday coincided with carnival festivities so a grande bash with friends and family was exactly what we wanted. This year however, a big party seemed pointless especially as Georgie, when asked who he would like to see at his birthday party, only mentioned two friends and his cousins. I decided to keep it simple, invite a few of our friends with kids around Georgie’s age and throw in a magician for their entertainment. My parents laughed out loud when I mentioned this because apparently on my fourth birthday, a magician was there. I actually have some memories of that day but that’s probably because my mum backed into a utility pole after the party making me burst into tears and say ‘I love you mummy’ over and over again!
I really have to tell you about the magician because he was the party’s main focus, keeping children and adults entertained for over two hours! I know Dinos through one of my best friends but I had also interviewed him years ago when he was crowned Cyprus Champion Magician, twice. Dinos specialises in card tricks, winning second and fourth place at the World Xtreme Card Magic Championship. But, in my opinion, what he does best is entertaining. He had us laughing at his jokes and had the children wrapped up in his magic tricks, which by the way, do not include rabbits and birds.
I knew Dinos was the perfect choice for Georgie’s party. I knew he would keep the kids entertained without us, the parents, having to worry about anything other than drinking coffee and eating cake. It was something new and exciting for the children who are used to bouncy castles and playgrounds and what’s more EVERYONE had a fantastic time. We danced, helped make things disappear and someone (!) even sang a Spice Girls song!
Georgie’s birthday cake was made by Emilia’s Cake Creations.
