How to save money on UK staycations

Sometimes we can take Britain for granted, usually because the weather makes it a little difficult to really feel like you’re on a holiday at times. But if you look at the UK, it has some of the most beautiful scenery and cities in the world. Perfect for a family holiday.

However, UK holidays can also be expensive and people often head off to other countries for a fraction of the price. But what if you want to stay in the UK? Well, there are ways to save money on the usual prices.

Buy A Caravan

If you’re still stuck on the idea of a tiny, horrendously decorated caravan circa 1980, then the thought of a caravan probably fills you with terror. Modern caravans are actually very luxurious and finished to a high standard. It’s more like a mobile hotel room than a traditional caravan.

You can find used caravans for sale that will save you money on a new model. While the initial outlay for your caravan might be more expensive at first, it will save you a lot of money over the years. There are caravan parks all over the UK which you can stay at when exploring the cities and countryside.

Book Off Peak

School holidays and the summer months are the most expensive times to book anywhere in the UK. If you’re not travelling with children, or your kids aren’t yet at school age, take advantage of this and save a small fortune. When it comes to a summer holiday, this doesn’t mean that you’ll have to miss the good weather, most schools break up towards the end of July, leaving you a two or three-week window to get better pricing.

Sign Up For Points & Loyalty Programmes

Yes, it may mean getting an avalanche of marketing emails every week, but by signing up for points programmes and loyalty schemes, you can save money on your next holiday. For example, some hotel chains let you save towards free stays, or some resorts let you use Nectar points when booking.

You’ve probably not noticed because you’re so used to seeing but many foods and snack products have vouchers on them for free entry to places such as Lego Land, Thorpe Park and other family attractions. Cut out and keep these so that you can reduce the entry prices on the day.

Split The Cost With Friends And Family

Many holiday parks and cottages charge a standard price per time period rather than per person per night. So it can make sense to go on holiday with other people and split the cost, making it cheaper for everyone. You don’t even need to have an entire holiday together if you don’t want to, just agree in advance what you’ll do together and what you’ll do separately.

Takeaways

Like everything today, prices are rising on accommodation and tourist destinations in the UK. If you know where to look, there are ways to reduce the cost of a UK staycation so that your money can go further.
