How to store your jewellery

Jewellery is always a popular gift or a treat purchase for yourself. Some jewelry can be an investment purchase whereas some is just for fun. Regardless, whatever type of jewelry you have, you need to take care of it. This includes storing it properly. With that in mind, here are some tips on how to store your jewelry.

Earrings

The golden rule of storing earrings is to store them in their pairs. If you have single earrings on purpose then it can be a good idea to separate them from the paired earrings. This makes it more obvious that there’s supposed to be one earring rather than a pair.

You can buy dedicated earring holders. If you have a lot of earrings, these can be a great investment. If you don’t, then it’s easy to DIY one. Get a picture frame or photo frame where you can access the back as well as the front. Then put strong fabric instead of a picture or photo. This will display your earrings while holding them securely.

Rings

Rings are probably the easiest item of jewelry to store. There are plenty of dedicated ring holders you can buy to protect your most precious rings. Ring trees are a great way to show off less delicate jewelry while also keeping it accessible. Just think carefully about where you put them, especially if you have kids or pets.

Brooches

The key to storing brooches safely is to avoid damaging the pin. Ideally, you also want the main part of the brooch to be visible so you can see what you have quickly and easily. If you’re using a jewelry box, then a flat tray is ideal for this. Drawers can be OK, but you need to be careful about stacking brooches on top of each other.

If you only have small, light brooches then you might be able to use a photo or picture frame as for earrings. A lot of brooches are, however, a bit too big and heavy for this to work safely. An alternative is to pin them into a pillow so you can keep them safe and show them off.

Bracelets and bangles

Bracelets and bangles generally need slightly different treatment. With more delicate jewelry, like Hot Diamonds bracelets, the priority is to prevent tangling. If you manage this, then the stone will usually be fine. With more solid jewelry, like bangles, the priority is to protect the surface.

This means that bracelets are generally safest either hung so they drop straight down or stretched out in boxes. The next-best option is to put them in their own pouches. Bangles can be put flat, put on rods, or put in their own pouches.

Necklaces

Similar comments apply to necklaces as for bracelets and bangles. Basically, the more delicate a necklace is, the more you want to hang it or stretch it flat to prevent tangling. The more robust it is, the more you want to think about protecting the surface.

The extra length of necklaces means that they can be harder to roll up and put in a pouch. This means that putting them flat in a tray or hanging them are usually your best options.
