Ice lollies with only three ingredients

DSC_1890I stared at three boxes of organic strawberries sitting on the kitchen table. Georgie was halfway through one of them when I grabbed them. ‘How about we turn them into ice lollies?’ I said to him.

DSC_2028 DSC_1874DSC_1876It didn’t take long to find a super easy ‘recipe’ on Pinterest. And when I say ‘easy’, I mean it! These lollies consist of only three ingredients that I will assume you already have at home. Now get the kids involved. Let them throw everything in the blender, let them watch as the mixture sloshes and churns but warn them that they will not be ready until later. Kids don’t understand time and will not understand that lollies need to remain in the freezer until several hours later, and the last thing you want is a tantrum, so it is a good idea to prepare the lollies and then move on to something else. To Georgie I explained that after he could help me cut up the bananas and place them in a ziplock bag in the freezer, we would whip them up in the morning before school and by the time we come back in the afternoon, they’ll be ready.

What you need to make these strawberry ice lollies:

-One large ripe banana, peeled, cut into chunks and frozen

-12 large strawberries, sliced in half

-Half a cup of pineapple juice

Throw all the ingredients in a blender and blend for two minutes. Pour into moulds and freeze for six hours. That’s it!

DSC_1884The recipe indicates that it yields six lollies but that really depends on the moulds you have. The ones we use were purchased from an Alpha Mega supermarket and cost 2.50 euros for four.
