We’ve hit a major milestone people! James is now six months old and a whole lot has been happening. Before it’s all lost in the chaos that is my tired and sleepless mind, I wanted to jot it down.
I was reading through old blog posts of mine from when Georgie was a baby and I loved that I somehow managed to write and photograph most of what he was up to. This blog started as a diary of sorts, a bid to document my little man’s moves so I wouldn’t forget. Mission accomplished, I say. So now it’s time to do the same with my newest little dude.
James is a big crawler. He started moving around ALOT when he was five months old so you can imagine what he’s up to now. It’s safe to assume that he can no longer be left unattended on a bed or sofa so we’ve gotten into a new habit of washing the floors twice a day, not allowing anyone to wear shoes in the house and dangerous obstacles have all been removed. If you come to my house, make sure you watch where you tread because this baby goes everywhere.
At six months Georgie was sleeping through the night in his cot, in his own bedroom. Not the case with James. Poor thing has been battling a month-long cold i.e blocked nose and a cough and still nursing twice sometime three times a night so he’s still in our bedroom. We did however transition to the cot from the moses basket as five months because little dude was about ready to knock the thing over and climb out. Another major difference between my two kids. Georgie slept in said moses basket until he was six months and not once did he try to escape.
I’m hoping now he’s on solids that the times he wakes up during the night will gradually decrease and that by the beginning of the new year he’ll be in his own room- which I hope will be ready. Speaking of solids, I thought long and hard about the baby led weaning method, which I find to be amazing, but eventually decided not to do. For those who don’t know about BLW, babies have to be at least seven months old. James was so ready for solids at five and a half months, showed no interest in formula to top up his boob feedings and seemed genuinely hungry so I decided to go the traditional way of pureeing his food and spoon-feeding him and perhaps in a month we can give the BLW method a go.
James loves sweet potatoes, avocados, bananas and porridge. And he is currently ‘eating’ three times a day. He babbles alot, smiles at everyone with some exceptions- if he doesn’t like you, you’ll get the quivering lower lip and a massive burst of tears. It’s heartbreaking to see actually. We’re working on our nap routine- currently at two maybe three depending on the day. Mid-afternoon ones I worry about as I have to pick up Georgie from school around 1.30 so staying home for a long nap is out of the question. James has an early bedtime routine, as did Georgie. By 6.30 he’s bathed, in his pyjamas, given a bottle of warm breastmilk and in bed.
And last but not least, his favourite person in the whole world is his brother. The sound of his name let alone his voice will put a smile on his face. Probably the most adorable thing ever.
