I remember those first weeks as a mother. There’s rarely any time to shower and wash your face let alone paint your nails and put on some makeup. I remember waiting for my sister or mum to come by and watch Georgie while I washed my hair – anyone who knows me and my hair, knows how long that can take. In between dirty nappies and colic attacks, I learnt how to master a topknot and embrace my skin with no foundation to aid in hiding every single imperfection. To be honest though, during those first months, I noticed that my skin had never looked so good. I am told that breastfeeding will do that to you.
Fast-forward a couple of years. Along with that sweet newborn smell, gone too is the lack of time for everyday beauty habits. Nowadays, once I know Georgie is in bed, I can get on with taking care of myself whether that be applying a face mask or practicing meditation. He can now dress himself in the morning while I apply my lipstick. It only takes five minutes, its a minor change to my appearance but it can make me feel so much better as I go about my day. Despite Georgie’s growing independence, time is always limited, especially in the mornings. Am I right? Learning the ropes as a mother and, at the same time, feeling comfortable as a 30-something-year old woman is essential to me and I’m guessing to most of you too. So without further ado, I would like to introduce a new weekly post. Mummy Beautiful will focus on mothers and their beauty routines, products they swear by and tips/advice.
I would like to kick off Mummy Beautiful with one of my best friends, Xanthi, mother of two.
What is your daytime beauty routine? I wash my face every morning with a foaming cleanser. Then, I apply an eye cream and a day cream with SPF.
What is your nighttime routine? Two to three times a week, I wash my face with a warm cloth, which opens the pores and allows products to penetrate the skin. I then apply an eye cream and a serum, which I sometimes substitute with almond oil.
Favourite beauty product? I love blushers because they make you look healthy. Right now I am using MAC’s Mineralize Skin Finish.
Favourite skincare product? By far, Estee Lauder’s Advanced Night Repair.
Healthy habits? I ride a bicycle and make sure I drink a lot of water.
Any tips/advice? Cleanse, cleanse, cleanse. I always wash my face before going to bed and do not use wipes, which can be a quick and easy solution but are actually quite harmful to some skin types. One tip I swear by is lemon rubbed on my face. I leave it on for a few minutes then wash it off. It has a fantastic whitening effect.
You have five minutes to tend to your face. What do you apply? Mascara, blusher and lipstick. Always lipstick.
