No resolutions. Just healthy promises.

Hello. And a happy new year to all!

It’s probably the first time since I started this blog that I haven’t written a Christmas/last post of the year. But I wasn’t feeling it, you know? I love this space so much I could never rush to put content out just for the sake of it. My new podcast Mamma Mu is doing insanely well given that it’s created for an audience with very little experience in listening to podcasts. Since its launch it has been embraced by a mixture of amazing people both men and women, so a massive chunk of my free time has been dedicated to this beautiful project that includes beautiful women talking about a range of issues. As much as I am loving the other side of storytelling, that of the spoken word, despite being petrified at first, my expressions, my feelings, my truth will always be carried out better through writing.

I won’t go into this past year’s reflections and impressions although I feel it has been a transformative one for me. My time to learn how to slow down, find what feels good and care for what truly matters has finally arrived. Just two years shy of 40 but you know, better late than never.

My 5 healthy promises for 2020

  1. Drink water.
  2. Read books.
  3. Do yoga.
  4. Create.
  5. Be in bed by 10.

I am keeping it THAT simple this time. It’s not scary, it’s not unrealistic and it can definitely help me achieve more goals. Because a lot of what I truly want can only come if I am committed to this strong foundation.

Drinking water

I’m not awful at remembering but I need to increase my intake. I reckon I’m on about a litre a day and feel it in my bones that I want to drink more. So far so good. The easiest way I have discovered to drink more water is to carry a sustainable bottle that can carry up to half a litre that way you know all you have to do is fill it four times. Not a scary number.

Read books

So this one has an interesting story. If you’ve been following along on Instagram and Facebook then you’ll know that I posted a question about online book shopping destinations other than Amazon because their delivery prices are ridiculous and I hate them because they’re the main reason I never got round to reading the books I really wanted to read. Rant over. So I discovered Book Depository and do not feeling at all embarrassed by the fact that no, I had no idea what Book Depository is and I’m supposed to be a writer. I also discovered a huge interest in a book club/swap! It’s a fantastic idea and I actually did arrange three book swaps after that post. It’s definitely noted as a project. Any help/tips are more than welcome.

Do yoga

I started doing yoga on a daily basis almost two months ago. And I fucking love it mainly because I get to do it from home. Honestly, my whole body care routine has radically changed since I discovered YouTube! ha! I’m not too keen on cardio ones although I will occasionally do those too. But what I am truly grateful for: yoga videos. Yoga with Adriene is my absolute favourite because she has a yoga video for any kind of ailment, for stress and anxiety, for thyroid problems and gut issues, you name it and she has created a series of poses for it. If you haven’t heard of her and would like to embark on the new 30 day yoga challenge/journey which I am currently doing and definitely feeling all the benefits, look her up. I’ve even talked about her on my podcast and this week’s podcast episode will be with a yoga instructor so yeah, there’s a whole lot of goodness in my life right now.

Create

Anything. Create anything. It does not have to be a masterpiece. It can be a state of mind. It can be a doodle. I love doodling. It can be a cake or an environment. For me it’s writing, cooking, baking, learning. The word ‘create’ gives me good vibes. Making time for it makes sense.

Be in bed by 10 pm

As I’m writing this, Danny, my youngest of the three and almost two years old, is recovering from one of those horrible viruses one in every two children currently have apparently. It was a very busy day at the paediatrician’s yesterday. He was on day 4 of high temps so my mind had to be put at ease because all this subsequently means that I’m knackered therefore not operating on full throttle, my mind could be playing tricks on me. Interrupted sleep is a bitch. Any parent knows that. I feel extremely crabby when I sleep too late or not well and it effects my skin and my gut too. I wake up at 6 am every morning now the kids are back in school and that has definitely help me regulate my bedtime too. If only there were more hours in the day, right?

But it’s ok. As I said on my social media yesterday evening, I am learning to say it’s ok and actually mean it. It’s taken time but I can finally say for sure that I am noticing how I am effectively learning to reframe things. I am learning to let go of expectations and do things my way. ‘Does it matter?’, is a question I ask myself a lot lately and it’s definitely helping me to see things clearly.

Lots of love x
