The coolest t-shirts a Cypriot will ever own

The Cypriot dialect is packed with the most colourful and mouth-filling words, accents and tones. Some say that when spoken, the Cypriotr dialect may as well be sung. They say it’s a beautiful melodic conjunction of various cultural influences.

I say it’s downright hilarious. With a deep-rooted verbal connection to sayings such as Giati Etsi Thelei To Katti, I Sitzia Tou Mavrou and Lamna’Rota it’s almost as though we’ve created the basis of a secret language spoken by few in the world. They are, I believe, the true beauty of the Cypriot dialect, the weird and often inexplicable Kipriaka.

Five beach hair styles

It’s summer!!! And my hair is constantly wet, constantly out of control and always bordering on too dry. If it ain’t the humidity wreaking havoc, it’s the pool or the sea water. Either way curly/dry hair does not do well in summer. This is why, this year, I have chosen to stop trying to get my locks to look as good as they do during the cooler months. I have given up on styling products and have finally embraced some off-beat hairstyles that will take me from day to night without any hassle.

Food

In the kitchen// Eggs on toast with kale

This simple combination is one of my all-time favourite meals. Why? First of all, it’s protein-based, which is always a good and healthy idea. Throw in the fact that these eggs are freshly picked from my dad’s farm and it’s easy to see why I love it. Reason number two is the quick and easy factor, so important in a busy mother’s life. And last but by no means least, there’s kale, one of the healthiest greens and foods in general!

A favourite spot in the old town of Nicosia

Lately, I have been spending my nights tending to a dreaded project on my long and looming to-do list: sorting through 10,000 photos, all of which are on my laptop. Hours fly by as I painstakingly view every single one, discarding or fixing up and eventually saving or setting to one side to print. I have unearthed many long-forgotten photos such as these from a Saturday afternoon at one of our favourite spots in Old Nicosia, Tria Fanaria.
Located behind the Faneromeni church and square, on one of the pedestrian streets next to Ledra Street, we consider this patisserie, open since 1952 (!) to be one of the few places (that is not a playground) where we can go and relax with Georgie. There’s plenty of space for him to ride his scooter without us having to worry about cars driving by while we take in the old city vibes. No matter how much papa and I love taking Georgie to places where the walls are not plastered with Mickey Mouse images, if the food is a disaster, we ain’t going. Luckily that isn’t the case with Tria Fanaria and their bougatsa with cream. I couldn’t tell you what the spinach and cheese pies taste like nor the baklava, galaktopoureko and other traditional sweets because I simply cannot resist a bougatsa with cream and a hot coffee on a Saturday afternoon under the shade of the big old trees. Georgie is a massive bougatsa and cream fan too although his choice of beverage is a chocolate milkshake. Another reason we like going there are the ridiculously low prices. Two bougatses, two coffees and a milkshake will cost you less than 10 euros.
