Since I discovered the existence of beautifully curated kids shops, both online and on site, my kids’ selection of toys has gone up a notch. They’re -slowly- replacing big ugly plastic trucks with wooden airplanes and exciting puzzles. And the kids genuinely love them. The latest online toy store added to my list of spaces to shop from for birthday gifts, among other things is Pie in the Sky, a local business with a seriously impressive selection of toys and accessories mainly because they’re all eco-friendly and sustainably sourced.
Katerina, mum of two, runs Pie in the Sky with one aim: to keep everything recyclable and or/recycled and eco-friendly but still cool enough for the kids. She sent the boys some toys to try out.
James fell in love with this submarine, which impressed me too, to be honest. I like the colours. He was in need of a new bath toy that would keep his curious little mind satisfied. This, My First Green Toys submarine, is non-toxic and has a scoop and pour mouth so it scored major high points with this little pre-schooler. I like the idea of it lasting long enough for Danny to enjoy playing with it too.
Pie in the Sky definitely has a strong focus on baby and toddler products. And I love that because at such young ages they can benefit immensely from the simplicity of a toy designed to stimulate motor development, cognitive abilities and communication skills and get kids excited. Things like this First Four shape sorter and this giraffe ride one will make totally unique ideas for your friend’s baby or your own toddler.
Georgie and James each got a little pull-back racing car. Perfect! Now there’s no more of ‘his one is bigger!’ and ‘his one is faster!’ and the one I particularly loathe ‘it’s broken!’ There are no nobs or gimmicks to these adorable little toys. All they have to do is pull back and let go. And trust me, they go fast!
Seeing as Pie in the Sky is dedicated to little kiddie toys you would think there wouldn’t be much to interest an 8-year old or older. But I found the arts and crafts section and got Georgie a bead set. It came in a neat little box with over five different bead styles and included laces. We made two bracelets on mother’s day morning and lots of memories. The backpack selection is amazing and definitely worth looking into with brands like Mister Gorilla and Miss Rilla. I particularly love this one and this one.
I love that Pie in the Sky has a focus and a mission. And it’s proof that small businesses should be a force to be reckoned with.
