10 beach games/activities for kids

On Saturday afternoon, after we celebrated my mum’s 60th birthday (Happy birthday mum!) papa had some business to tend to so Georgie and I made our way to the beach. Not a good idea. It was so windy I could barely hear my own thoughts and I actually felt quite cold, literally regretting taking out all those cardigans I had in the car. So there I was expecting it to rain at any moment when my son came running towards me for the millionth time, telling me how much fun he was having. Kids+water+sand=Quiet time for you and me. But to make the most of this time, read through this list of easy beach activities and games, show, teach and demonstrate and then RELAX.

SUNDAY MARKET IN LARNACA

One of my favourite things to do on a quiet and uneventful Sunday is go to the market in the Livadia area. My parents, avid market goers, introduced me to this impressive set-up of stalls over a year ago when I was on the hunt for ‘special’ pieces to add to our new house. I remember the first time I went with them. My dad made me laugh when he warned me: ‘This is not Portobello market, ok?’ Of course I knew it wasn’t because I have been to my fair share of markets in Cyprus (even attending a few as a seller) therefore I know how extremely rare it is to actually find a special kind of gem.

The Parent Hood //10

Last night, I finally decided to give into Mr Christian Grey and see what all the hype is about. Instead of laughing my head off, which was what I was expecting, I was actually deeply bothered. For those not aware of the name, I am referring to the world’s newest fascination and the male lead in 50 Shades of Grey. I was not bothered by Mr Grey’s idea of a good time – to each his own-but by the fact that apparently over 100 million women bought and read this book and actually liked it thus creating a monster and a boring one at that! Girls, this is not good stuff. Please spend your money on books that are worth your time. The writing is extremely bad and furthermore if Sam Taylor-Johnson couldn’t save the movie version, then you know its a hopeless case. When I heard that the irresistible Charlie Hunnam had pulled out of his role as Christian Grey, I was disappointed and I get the impression I’m not the only one. Have you seen him? Anyway, I can imagine Hunnam waking up, sweaty and shaky, remembering the moment he almost took part in what is sure to be the worst story ever told. Rolling Stone said it best: The true audiences for 50 Shades of Grey are gluttons for punishment-by boredom!

A new year food resolution

One of my resolutions for 2013 was to stop throwing out food. Buying too much and ultimately forgetting about it is an awful habit and one that most of us are guilty of. Since moving houses, having a semi-organised kitchen and becoming more involved in cooking, I am aware of what I purchase and use. There is still room for improvement though and that’s why I get excited when I stumble upon food-saving tips. Simple and easy to do, some of these tips will save you money and others will add a natural healthy touch to your dishes.

at home

It’s a refreshing change of scenery for me to lounge around my house all day. With a toddler, it’s hard to stay put. They get bored, you get frustrated and before you know it, you couldn’t care less about the scribbling on the walls, if it means getting two minutes of peace and quiet. The mall and park has always been my answer to moments like these. But over the three months we’ve been in our new home, Georgie and I have developed a new pattern. We rarely leave our little corner of the world and spend hours potting around the garden, cooking, baking and painting. I even managed to put together a little bit of art in the form of stamped triangles. Also, I made a salad with fresh rocket from our vegetable garden. Pat on the back for me because up until three months ago, the only plant that survived in my hands was a cactus. I feel I have a lot to be proud of, especially my little dude who is talking up a storm these days and learning to appreciate days filled with music and Sunday afternoon burgers with the family.
