Motherhood, on our island

A magical birthday party created by Fun Teepee

When Fun Teepee got in touch with me about working together on a blog post I jumped at the chance. I love teepee tents, the whole concept has a magical vibe to it that’s unbeatable. We have always had one in the house and the kids love it. Georgie got his first one when he was two and a half, he still likes lounging around in it. Recently we decided to upgrade to this beautiful one that the younger kids really enjoy too. So I knew that bringing five teepees into our living room for a pyjama/sleepover party would be a brilliant idea. I was right. Georgie’s 8th birthday party was a huge success. Both magical and functional, every one including the adults thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

Birthday party goodie bags

It’s a birthday party tradition that I remember as a child. Don’t you? The image of a little plastic bag with printed colourful balloons pops to mind. Although its strange I cannot recall what was actually IN those bags -balloons? sweets?-, I remember the excitement of receiving one.

Last year was the first time I prepared goodie bags for Georgie’s little friends. Inside the boys’ bags I placed a rolled up Superman poster tied with a balloon. The girls got a mermaid poster. Both were hand drawn and gorgeous and I’m told they looked amazing on the kids’ bedroom walls.

Georgie turns 5

This week it was Georgie’s birthday. He is now 5 years old.

I get a bit emotional at his birthdays, when he blows out the candles and I realise how bloody quickly time goes by. I hugged him tight on the morning of his birthday and whispered the words ‘my baby’ to which he replied: ‘No mama. I am now 5 years old so I am not a baby anymore.’ I made it abundantly clear that no matter how old he is he will always be MY baby. If you follow me on Instagram you can catch me singing happy birthday to Georgie as he was waking up with a smile on his face.

Four

Georgie turned four this weekend. Thankfully, this came with a flurry of smiles, so much love and a sense of pride as opposed to sentimental shenanigans on my part, i.e locking myself in the bathroom so no one can see the tears right before he blows out the candles. Yes, it has happened. It’s natural to become emotional with each passing year, right? I still can’t believe he’s four yet but then again the changes I note on an everyday basis shake me up more than any number ever could. My baby is becoming a little man. He is my best friend and the reason I laugh out loud, almost every day. No exaggeration.
