The Birdhouse is exactly the type of place I had in mind when I mentioned how much I want to promote small local shops and businesses. Especially this Christmas. This place is brimming with gorgeous creations all handmade with love and care by very talented individuals and I am so excited to tell you about it.

The walls of our guest toilet room are blackboards. You may remember when, over one intense weekend, I painted it myself. And may I add how I have not regretted it for a moment. Friends and family have a field day scribbling on the walls. Our family loves leaving notes and little sketches for each other. Georgie has been practicing writing letters and forming words and I adore finding his pictures and little designs. But there’s one particular space, right over the toilet, which is just for me. Every now and then I like to take the time to create something big and nice. So I’m looking for some inspiration this season.
Yay! It’s December 1 so I guess the kids can break open those advent calendars. I had my eye on a couple for Georgie and then yesterday I came across the most excellent advent DIY idea ever so I hurriedly gathered all the supplies and began making an advent village! I had the first 15 houses ready by this morning and plan on finishing up tonight. I just love looking it at especially with all those twinkling lights. I don’t think I’ll be filling them all just yet though because Georgie keeps peeking inside.
This week has been a stressful one and to top it off I’ve spent more hours in front of my laptop than I normally do so to say I am looking forward to a nice relaxing weekend is an understatement. We’ll be doing plenty of Christmas planning and making lists which I am excited about because I freakin’ love Christmas! So no surprise that this week’s The Parent Hood has a bit of a holiday vibe.
As a mother, I have a love/hate relationship with gift giving during the holiday season. While I appreciate friends and family showing their love for Georgie, I don’t appreciate the limitless chaos that normally takes place. That’s why, for the last three years, we have a new tradition when it comes to Christmas shopping. The Four Gifts advice or rule if you will, is one of my favourites and one that has been successfully applied when planning Georgie’s gifts.
