Yay for painting, right? It keeps kids occupied for a ridiculous amount of time and there is unlimited creativity involved. It is something that Georgie and I do often. We love painting stones, sticks, cardboard boxes, wooden toys and anything else I can get my hands on. But then there are times when creating a beautiful mess is not what I have in mind and the last thing I need is a toddler running around with black paint on his hands. Enter Water Painting. It deserves to come in capitals because it is such an awesome no-brainer. All you need is a bowl of water, paint brushes and somewhere to set those little ones free. The only problem I had with this activity was trying to explain why the painting was disappearing. But trust me, if there’s water in the mix, you won’t get any complaints.
Cyprus
I don’t scare easy. But when I do, often it is because of people and their peculiar beliefs. The first gay Cyprus pride parade was held this Saturday in Nicosia. I proudly took part. And as I marched down the street with Georgie in my arms, I watched people shouting that we would burn in hell and that I should be ashamed of myself for exposing my child to such issues! I may have sugarcoated that last sentence. For a moment I felt a lump in my throat. Could I or my child actually get hurt for having fundamental beliefs in basic human rights? In 2014? In Europe?
The Legion Run. At first, I didn’t plan to write a post about our day in the fields with muddy people running everywhere but then I realised it was kind of a big deal. Legion Run kicked off, this weekend in Cyprus, a European tour to eight cities in seven countries. The 5 km race with obstacles and the sole purpose of finishing with an intact team welcomes everybody to participate. The obstacles are great as you can see but the idea is anyone can get through them with a little help from their team. I guess this appealed to many because 3,500 people took part, making me want to kick myself for not!Despite the strong winds, the very long, dirt, stoney and dusty road I took pushing a buggy all the way upwards (phew!), it was definitely a sight worth seeing.
As I’ve mentioned before here on the blog, my figure ballooned when I was pregnant with Georgie. My weight and the excess of it just got out of hand and even though I tried my best, I only managed to exercise for the first six months. Not that the type of exercise I enjoy is the type that burns calories because it doesn’t really. It burns off inches though and I appreciate that too. Stott Pilates is something I started doing in 2009. I took a year off after Georgie was born and as soon as I was able to leave him with my parents for an hour twice a week, I went straight back. I love what Stott Pilates does to my body, the strength I have gained and the fact that it has done wonders for my posture.I took my camera with me to class this morning and our instructor took a few shots of our little morning group doing the circuit. As you can see there’s more to Pilates and Stott Pilates than just lying on the floor, breathing. We do that too but we like to mix it up. You can read about the difference between Pilates and Stott Pilates here.
This last photo breaks my heart because it reminds me how much my little boy suffered through the horrific flu epidemic that is flooring us here in Cyprus. You can see it on his face. Utter misery. I am however very happy to report that we have slowly but steadily made our way out of the fevers and vomit and preparing for Georgie’s third birthday party this weekend! Carnival celebrations are also in full swing here in Cyprus so our little party is going to be a dress up one!!! I am so excited for my little boy. A joyful celebration is exactly what we need to get the engines running.
