Motherhood

Green Monday

Before we tucked into a healthy lunch including a giant octopus, yummy prawns and various dips and breads, Green Monday and the Carnival was a great excuse to paint our faces and play games. It was the kind of day ideal for flying a kite and finally taking pleasure in all the hard work that has gone into making this place a home. It’s been just over a week since we moved in and although living out of boxes and a fussy toddler who wants to play around an empty swimming pool can make for one big headache, having an awesome family right next door makes it a lot easier.

getting settled

On Saturday, March 9, our families gathered to help us move into our new home. A quick pot roast was put in the oven, a bouncy castle was set up for the kids and everyone was assigned various little jobs. I will admit that it doesn’t quite feel like home yet but then again 8 years in the flat is hard to override in just a few days. Georgie however is enjoying the whole experience immensely. He gets to see his cousins everyday, ride his bicycle to his grandparents in the morning and gather eggs from pappou’s little farm. There’s still quite alot of organising and sorting to do but we are looking forward to this adventure.

Two

I looked at the clock tonight at precisely the time Georgie was born two years ago. And then I looked at my sweet little boy playing with his wind-up toy car on the floor. Yep. Time flies. But honestly, I didn’t dwell on that side of it too much. Oddly enough, I only got teary once today and I was thrilled to throw him a little party and finally get him that Ikea mini kitchen he loves so much. He makes me tea and then he makes me laugh.

in the kitchen—Pizza and white beans

A couple of pictures here from last week’s successful first-time attempts in the kitchen! Pizza and beans! I’ve always wanted to make my own pizza and I am very proud to say it was almost 100 per cent organic too. Apart from the dough and cheddar cheese, every single ingredient from the broccoli to the tomatoes were pesticide-free and also LOVED by Georgie. The beans weren’t a winner to begin with but mashed into a creamy potato mash was a different story. Also my little dude has newfound love for liver! It is considered a superfood and VERY nutritional, in case you didn’t know, so I was thrilled when Georgie gobbled it down.

in the kitchen—Picnic ready

Saturday late mornings are usually spent with Georgie’s cousins at TGIF, perhaps the most kid-friendly diner I know. However this Saturday, we went back to basics and snacked on fruit, cheese and bread at the Athalassa Park. I literally threw in a bag whatever I could find in the kitchen that would be picnic-suitable. It was a lovely change and one that we will definitely be doing more of. And thankfully, Georgie rediscovered his love for blueberries.
