on our island

munching in the fresh air

There seemed to be a light breeze in the air today which meant that Georgie could play outside. I grabbed some awesome lunch from Get Fresh and headed to the park. There wasn’t a soul around. Georgie had the playground all to himself.

Today I realized that being at the park surrounded by trees, dirt, sticks and stones is the only place where he really enjoys himself and doesn’t ‘need’ me. At some point, he was sitting in the same position for at least five minutes…A book or a magazine may have come in handy. He NEVER sits still for one minute, let alone five! I guess it’s nature’s effect.        Picked up this shopping bag yesterday and already it has made my life easier.        Overall, a beautiful day.

breaking the routine

When papa called on Friday afternoon to tell me we were spending the weekend by the beach, I swear i did a little dance. Georgie was off to his grandmother’s for the night so that gave me plenty of time to pack for me and a busy 16-month old. I change him on average twice a day and that’s not including his pajamas. So the point was not to not overdo it with the packing…but then again, we’ll be at the beach, I thought to myself, which means he’ll be needing at least two shirts for each day… Next, snacks! And nappies for the water! Anyway, I like to think I didn’t take that much for one night.

Happy Father’s Day, daddy

I am extremely proud to be one of those daughters who thinks her daddy is the best in the world. Our bond runs deep, doesn’t it? It hasn’t always been smooth sailing though. Remember my many many late nights and ridiculous crazy fashion choices? What about the piercings and smoking? Nothing was really that unusual about my behavior growing up; I was merely a rebellious one. For the life of me I could never understand the insistence on table manners or putting the lid back on the coffee pot, or taking my coat and shoes off as soon as I get home. But guess what? Now I do. I see the tiny important things you have taught me in my everyday life now as a mother and I hope that  I will be able to give Georgie the same strong foundation. And our love of music! I am more like you than you will ever know! I love you, daddy. xxx

Food, let's play

baking and painting

Last night, we ordered in but I was in the mood to make dessert so I whipped up some strawberry tarts – technically i didn’t bake anything. The tart cases were ready. Oops. I did make the custard from scratch and the strawberries were organic so all eight tarts were scrumptious.

I saved one for Georgie because he hasn’t tasted the sweetness that is custard yet- I know! Ridiculous, right? Picture taken with brand spanking new iPad!      For some bizarre reason, he took the strawberries off before giving it a go. He then of course devoured the berries and waved his hands around for more.

I’m gonna miss this place

Enjoying the cool breeze on our veranda, watching the world go by. Makes me realize I’m gonna miss this place when we move. So MANY MANY wonderful things have happened to me here. Major incidents. But it’s the little everyday happenings and details that have made up my life over the last six years.   These girls take the same route everyday at the same time, chattering away. They make me smile.   My I♥NY coffee mug from my first trip to the most utterly fascinating city i have visited. The cactuses have been there way before that. They were the first greens I brought into the apartment. SIX YEARS ago!   I swear I’m even gonna miss our road.   Thankfuly this part of my years lived in the apartment will be coming with. x
