One day over the summer, my dad handed me a big cardboard box. It was packed with drawings and paintings, school report cards and birthday cards and even a diary I kept as a teenager. Memories and keepsakes from my childhood and a bunch of other utterly irreplaceable stuff were discovered during a cupboard clear-out and I could not be more thankful to my parents for saving every single piece.

1. Stunning summer photos by Wanderlust drifted.
2. This is a brilliant post by the 50s Housewife. An age by age list of ways to show your child how to clean up after themselves and contribute as a member of a household.
3. New favourite blog! That has absolutely nothing to do with parenting.
My brother’s girlfriend sent me this video last week. I think it’s a topic worth discussing.
Here’s the synopsis: A man goes to a playground with a fluffy white puppy. He approaches random mothers and explains that he is conducting a social experiment to see if kids will willingly walk away with a stranger with a smile on his face and a puppy in his arms or not. Every single mummy is certain that their child will put what they have learnt about talking to strangers into action and run away, returning to their parents’ safe embrace. Of course, they don’t. One by one, the kids take the man’s hand and walk off, leaving their mothers gobsmacked, to say the least.
Originally, this was meant to be a general post on sleep issues. But I scrapped that idea. It seemed silly because there is no way that everything sleep-related can be jammed into one post. Instead I will focus on a very simple question I am often asked: What do I do when my child refuses to sleep? The never-ending battles and arguments are emotionally-draining and exhausting. But honestly, they needn’t be. It will take time and effort on your part but in the end please know that you are making a huge investment because once you make a point of teaching your child how to sleep, it sticks for life.
Anytime we’re in line at the supermarket and I see a lollipop stand within kids’ reach, I see red. It annoys me, to say the least because no matter how hard we, as parents, try to spare our kids teeth from all sorts of artificial sweeteners that only wreak havoc, we are surrounded by unhealthy treat options all day, every day. I’ve learnt my lesson though and now I always stock my handbag with a few healthier options like these organic lollipops.
