Last week was World Book Day, which meant that soon after Carnival, Georgie was given another opportunity to dress up. The problem with a four-year old and dressing up as a book character is that apart from Dr Seuss and Peter Rabbit there isn’t much else. I tried convincing him that The Cat in the Hat would look nice but his heart was stuck on The Big Bad Wolf, the mean protagonist of a few tales. There was absolutely no way I was going to rent or buy and besides I was being given the chance to actually MAKE him a costume, something I have always wanted to do. I turned to books, blogs and DIY posts but soon stopped in my tracks when I found this awesome and absolutely fantastic DIY wolf costume. Lia Griffith, you are awesome and absolutely fantastic!
I won’t be going into details on how to make this costume because this is not my idea and I think you should take the time to visit Lia’s blog, especially if you’re interested in DIY and crafts as it is one of the best I’ve come across. I should point out that while this is in fact a No Sew costume, you will need a hot glue gun. Also needed are:
A grey hoodie
Yellow, white, black and grey felt
Scissors and straight pins
Hot glue gun
The rest is a piece of cake and if I can do it, you can too. I have never attempted anything like this before and it was an absolute success. I smiled when other mothers at school including Georgie’s teachers couldn’t believe I made his costume. I was tempted to tell them how ridiculously easy it was to create but didn’t. As a new mother with a kid in school, I need all the pats on the back I can get!
P.S One part of the costume that wasn’t included in Lia’s version is the hairy chest. I decided to add this bit because the only grey hoodie I knew Georgie wouldn’t need anymore was one with a design on the front. So I purchased an extra piece of grey felt, some furry trimming and covered it. If you have a plain grey hoodie, feel free to skip this part.
