I’m always on the look out for ways to stay motivated. Being a stay-at-home mama can be great but I really need to watch it because by the end of the day I feel all I’ve been doing is folding laundry, changing nappies and staring at James. And while all that is absolutely fine, I need to start feeling more productive.
My mornings have changed drastically since James was born. I used to drop Georgie off at school, run a few errands including attending a Pilates class and slowly but surely make my way to the local coffee shop with my laptop to catch up on work. Since the beginning of this new school season papa has been taking Georgie to school while I stay home with James. Now, staying home does of course come with a multitude of advantages but what about working from home? Not always a good idea unless you are massively disciplined and nothing can interrupt your flow.
Recently, in a bid to become a more organised morning person, I’ve started implementing these three simple tricks I came across one night while I was scrolling through Pinterest.
The reason I chose this particular way is because it’s just so easy to do. After three days I was already feeling more productive.
So there’s the Non-negotiable part which includes all those things you either forget to do or don’t want to do but have to do. Write a list. It could be anything. Exercise, cleaning out a drawer, sending out e-mails, meal planning. Anything that will make you feel better once you’ve completed it. Keep it by your bed or on your desk and chose the one you’d like to see ticked off that list when the time comes.
Then there are Desires. For me these are the things I think about at night when I’m lying in bed. The things I wish I had done that day, the things I really want to do. Such as reading, writing, meditating, catching up with friends via phone or email and preparing afternoon activities to do with Georgie. Sometimes it’s something as simple as getting dressed in the morning versus staying in my pyjamas all day.
And the best part: Rewards. After you’ve completed the non-negotiables and desires you can now sit back and enjoy your reward. This might be a cup of coffee, scrolling through Facebook or Instagram or perhaps some online shopping. Whatever makes you happy.
It’s that simple. And being a list-freak, I love how I can tick one thing off every day.
