Favourite storage solution: Baskets

A friend and I were heading out to dinner one night when she asked me how and where we store our shoes in our house. She told me that her kids seem to ignore the shoe rack she’s placed in the mud room and she’s running out of patience and ideas. I have one word for you, I said: Baskets.

storage solutions basketsI love baskets. In fact, I think its safe to say I’m obsessed with them and have a tendency to buy them non-stop. Any kind, big or small, wire or wicker, patterned or plain, is fine by me. Because no matter what type of ugly you stuff inside, on the outside they look cool and beautiful.

Georgie’s toys are all kept in baskets. In his bedroom and the living room. Some are big and deep enough to hold a multitude of toys which I tend to rotate from top to bottom every few months so he doesn’t get bored. And others are small and lined and they hold little itty bitty things like his Lego.

Keeping my pantry organised and tidy is only possible due to a range of baskets I have accumulated over time. There, I use a mixture of wicker and wire but all are shallow so I don’t lose anything.

Big and small laundry baskets are strategically placed throughout the house as my son and I like to shed our clothes once we’re home. The laundry room is kept in order with the help of big wire baskets and Georgie, papa and I each have a basket for our shoes.

It is such a simple and effective way to store and organise. And it makes cleaning so much easier. All you have to do is pull a basket out of the way whether its on the floor or on a shelf.

storage solution basketsI buy my baskets mainly from stores such as Zara Home, Marks and Spencer Home, Coin Casa at Debenhams and of course Ikea where right now you can get these beautiful Limited Edition wicker baskets. I’ve already bought two for James’ bedroom.
