10 DIY Valentine crafts for kids

I wouldn’t say I am a fan of the hype that comes with Valentine’s Day. At least not anymore. But it is a celebration of love and I am totally cool with that. Also I happen to have a cute little Valentine’s story to share. I remember one particular Valentine’s Day when I was no more than 16. I had had the sweetest boyfriend for a couple of months and the day of love was coming up so I did what is expected. Teddy bears, cards and various red and pink knick knacks with hearts smothered all over were purchased. We broke up two months later but remained friends. The type of friends who invite each other to their weddings! So, after more than ten years, one day I went to his house to invite him to my wedding. After a brisk chat with his mum, he took me to a cupboard where he revealed something so special I can’t help but smile every time I think of it. There, he kept a box of items from his childhood and one little gift I gave him on that Valentine’s Day.

A few days after we returned, I noticed some miscommunication between Georgie and I. It started with stamping feet and whiny noises. Hm. Then there was the time he thought it would be funny to spit in my face. There are the sudden bursts of energy that end with a jump into a knee-high deep puddle while we are walking side by side and climbs on the kitchen counters, oblivious to the glass bottle of olive oil resting tensely on the edge. Also, the day he decided to leisurely stroll out a cafe where we were sitting and turn right. Out of sight. On a busy road. Oh and the peculiar requests in the middle of the night.

Monsters

The obsession Georgie has with dinosaurs is wearing off. At least as far as favourite movie characters are concerned. Georgie is, of course, very young to understand what Monsters Inc is all about but I couldn’t resist watching it with him one afternoon. He was hooked within minutes. Since then Mike and Sulley have been topics of many discussions and finally painting and creating one afternoon. All we needed was a box, some paper cups leftover from his birthday party, glue and those sticky eyes, which we use often. Sometimes I’ll just stick a pair on a piece of paper and Georgie creates around them, making faces and imaginary creatures. He is at that drawing phase right now and you better believe I love it!
