The winter break is fast approaching, and as a mum, you need to find ways to keep your children entertained while the countdown to Christmas continues. Your kids will understandably be so excited to have Santa visit and to celebrate Christmas day with you and other loved ones. However, as you already know, over-excited children can be tiresome, so for your sanity, let’s take a look at some of the ways you can entertain the kids to avoid any upset during the festive holidays.
Make Christmas decorations
There’s a good chance your tree is already up, but that doesn’t mean the decorating for Christmas needs to be over. Grab some cheap arts and crafts from your local crafts store and let them make decorations to hang either on the tree or elsewhere in your home. Things like Christmas baubles, personalised placemats for the festive dinners, or even garlands to hang about the place are a great place to start. Not only are you creating treasured memories, but you’ll be keeping them entertained for quite some time.
Sign them up for physical activities
When kids aren’t stimulated enough they build up a lot of energy, and this has to be released somewhere. It may be too cold to play outside or head to the park, so instead, why not sign them up for a gymnastics class or two to help burn off some energy? Not only will they not be so hyperactive, but there’s a good chance they will be indulging in lovely Christmas treats over the next few weeks, so it helps to keep them fit and active.
Have a movie day
When the weather is cold and there’s nothing else to do, sometimes the best thing to do is give in and have a movie day. Put on your matching pyjamas, grab a bunch of your favourite drinks and snacks, and pick a movie each to watch together. You could keep it within the theme of Christmas, or you could explore other films you’ve been meaning to watch. It’s a great way to have a snuggling day with your kids and take time for yourself too!
Let them help you with small errands
In the last few days before Christmas, we all have things we need to do such as grabbing the last bits of veg for Christmas dinner. Why not have your children help you out with those things? For example, if you’re dropping off Christmas cards, give your child the task to run it to the door and post it. Small things like that will help keep them entertained without any moaning or groaning for you.
Get them to tidy their bedrooms
Finally, since Santa is coming, there’s a good chance they’re going to need to make space in their bedrooms for all of their lovely gifts. Challenging your children to tidy their bedrooms to the best of their ability should keep them quiet for some time, and give you a chance to do any final wrapping. Plus, Santa doesn’t want to see messy bedrooms, right?!
