Motherhood

Our week leading up to Christmas

This may very well be my last post before Christmas so I thought I would share some pictures of these past few days leading up to the big day. There’s food, selfies, stuff I am loving right now, the kids -of course!- and a little tushy.

The simple task of moving the sofa up against the wall and adding a new rug and floor lamp has breathed new life into our living room. Last Saturday morning was spent more or less like this. That is until about midday when the boys head to the race track. They’ve been shooing off and leaving me with baby Danny every Saturday for the last two months. It’s nice but it’s actually great because Georgie is now racing go-karts! Papa, James, Georgie and my father in law enjoy some quality time together and my baby boy who is now a little racer got to take part in his first race this Sunday and get up on the podium because he came in third!! So proud of him and his sportsmanship. Papa told me that during practice he would stop and help his little fellow drivers if they veered off course. Such a good boy. I love him.

Last Saturday we went to Limassol, James, Danny, me and James’s godmother. We went to Okiddoky‘s pop up shop on Saripolou Street, a great little area buzzing with life and suitable for kids too. James had a lovely breakfast at Mallon Glikis while I did some last minute kiddie shopping.

Two days before that, on December 14, Danny turned 10 months old! Double digits. And the day after, on the 15th, James turned two and a half exactly. Parents will know that’s a milestone. Whether it’s a good one or a bad one only depends on the child. There is nothing you can do about it!

We’ve been doing some baking lately with the kids. I can’t say we have found any new favourite recipes but we did attempt to bake alternative cookies three times. We succeeded twice and this chocolate shortbread was easy and tasty too.

I made a paella too one evening. From scratch. With chicken and fava beans. I followed a bunch of different recipes and didn’t cook it exactly right but we all enjoyed it despite the fact that it didn’t include seafood. Papa had never tried one with chicken. I have! In Madrid this summer. It was amazing and that’s why I know this one wasn’t. ha! But practice makes perfect right?

I have been wearing a vintage and second-hand piece I own quite alot lately. In September I bought a gorgeous red cardigan from The Collective, a cool little shop with proper real vintage deals on clothes and furniture. I recently wore it with my new Romeo Tees t-shirt. My mother in law’s black suede coat which I had tailored and love it so much I wear it with pretty much everything but mostly like it with leggings and hoodies or an all black look.

Skirt from H&M. Total impulse buy so thank God I actually like it on me. Dream sweater from Sobe. Booties: old.

And my new scorpio pendant from Ditale Studio which I haven’t taken off since i bough it.

Oh we discovered a lovely little place in Nicosia to get our healthy fix on the go. Cito Gourmet Express is packed with fresh juices, sandwiches, salads, soups and much more. We go every Tuesday before swim class just me and the two big boys.

I’ve wrapped a few presents. Just enough for me to feel content wrapping a few more at the last minute. There’s always one you forgot. Luckily some were beautifully wrapped already. Like these ones from Bomba. I had some brown wrapping paper that isn’t very festive but I wasn’t going to buy new ones when I already had two rolls. Might need a few more now I’m thinking of it.

So we’re in full Christmas holiday swing. Planning Christmas Day and the food and looking forward to seeing the kids’ faces on Christmas morning and the cosiness of Christmas Eve and getting together with friends and watching movies and singing. Yas!

It’s been a busy month and I was close to having a meltdown on two occasions. I won’t get into details but juggling everything is almost impossible. No wonder we feel like we’re dropping balls left, right and center. I don’t believe in balance. If you’re doing great in one area of your life then without a doubt another one is suffering. For me it’s my health. I feel constantly tired and exhausted but I am positive. I have taken steps to ensure I remain in a positive mind frame and hopefully fulfill one or two major health goals this year. For now and as of now, I am taking it slow. School’s out so now more early morning and lunchboxes to be packed. Right now what I need is to not have a routine so I am going to pour myself a glass of wine, put on a Christmas flick to watch with my big boy and enjoy my favourite time of the year.

Merry Christmas to you and your families x
