I’ve been itching for a living room change for a year now. I didn’t need anything radically different. But I needed to breathe new life into the area which we use the most. I wanted cosiness and good vibes.
Lighting is everything when it comes to making a cosy room/nook/area. We had a temporary ceiling light since we moved in – 5 years ago! It took me that long to realise I didn’t HAVE to have a ceiling light. So my lovely electrician brother-in-law came round one day and took it away. And now we have the most amazing floor lamp. This beauty is vintage, 70s vintage. I zoomed in on it the moment Aline over at Huga Studio posted a photo on Instagram. It was standing gloriously in her shop window amongst other beautiful mid-century modern vintage furniture. And now it’s in my living room and I love it. I call it my new baby.
I decided the old rug had to go too. It actually went to another room because it’s stunning and also still in good condition. But I wanted something different, lighter in colour and found a great inexpensive collection at Charilaos Stavrakis.
We were also sent this Tellkiddo toy bag from Okidokky which fits in perfectly with the look of the room and does what it’s supposed to do: keep toys out of the way in a stylish manner. ha! Love it! We also have one in James’s bedroom but I think I may bring that one downstairs too.
And the beautiful photos which I have been dreaming of since Danny was born. The red brick wall has been bare for too long. And it’s a feature of our home that I love so much so I knew it would feel good to allow it to shine. The amazing Melanie Kitti took these photos at Danny’s christening a couple of months ago. I told her what I wanted to do at our first meeting so on the day she managed to take these pretty shots of the boys individually. I have only seen a couple of the shots she took with all three of them on the day but I can’t wait to get my hands on them.
It feels so good to finally see the ideas I had in my head coming to life. After creating this area I physically feel better at home. There is no longer chaos and a lingering need to change. I now look forward to chilling on the sofa with a hot cup of ginger tea and a good TV show. It’s amazing what a simple furniture switch and some imagination can do for the soul x
