Five autobiographies/biographies/memoirs to read at the beach

Every summer since Georgie was born, Papa and I take three days off parent duty and spend time with friends while he spends some time with his grandparents. It’s an exciting time for me because I always feel that this is MY time, a time to do what one cannot normally do with kids. Like get a long massage, drink a cocktail or two before sunset, leave the room with nothing but a towel and a book, lounge by the pool and read said book continuously, without looking up once. Even blaring music through headphones! Daring stuff. All of which I am anxiously waiting to do.

Odd ends

1. One of my all-time favourite TV shows that ended this year. I remember watching it throughout my pregnancy and after I had given birth to Georgie. Mad Men was my breast-feeding companion.2. My beautiful darling girl.

3. Georgie received an absolutely amazing gift from his Thia Alexia. We’ve read The Magic Finger, we’re halfway through the BFG and in my free time I read Boy, Roald Dahl’s autobiography which is also part of the collection. Thank you!

Hatty, the vegetarian tiger

Georgie loves books. Basically he loves when I read to him. Every evening before we head upstairs he makes me promise to read him a ‘big book, mummy, not a little one’. Once we’re nestled in his bed and I begin to read I always notice the way he stares at me, my mouth and the expressions I make while reading as if my face can tell a better story than the pictures. I read to him every day which means we go through an impressive amount of used, borrowed and new books. Recently, in a bid to mix things up I stocked his bookshelf with storybooks I had when I was little. Big and chunky with bare pages and packed with various stories from Tom Thumb to The Snow Queen, they seem worlds away from the versions published today. I have had to explain what ‘shan’t’ means on more than one occasion! Man, I feel old sometimes.

The Parent Hood// 08

1. This month, I decided to give my regular Pilates classes a break and head to the gym for the first time in years. Change is good especially when you’re working muscles. If I’m putting time and energy into something I like to do it well so I’ve been looking up pre-workout smoothies and foods. If you work out, even if that is 30 minutes on the treadmill like me, you should check this link.
