Motherhood, on our island

sunny days, happy faces

With absolutely nothing on the itinerary, Sunday proved to be the perfect day for the kids to take their bicycles out for a ride and for the adults to finally soak up the rays by our pool. Things can get somewhat hairy with two two-year olds running around, unable to grasp the concept of drowning but there were more than enough hands to help keep them safe. Of course having a massive canvas cover over the entire pool that can easily hold up to 200 kilos is also a huge relief. However, swimming ‘lessons’ have been bumped up on the activity agenda and my little dude is adapting beautifully, kicking his legs and blowing bubbles. I’m hoping he develops a respectful relationship with water because living on an island means bare feet and lots of fun.

at home

It’s a refreshing change of scenery for me to lounge around my house all day. With a toddler, it’s hard to stay put. They get bored, you get frustrated and before you know it, you couldn’t care less about the scribbling on the walls, if it means getting two minutes of peace and quiet. The mall and park has always been my answer to moments like these. But over the three months we’ve been in our new home, Georgie and I have developed a new pattern. We rarely leave our little corner of the world and spend hours potting around the garden, cooking, baking and painting. I even managed to put together a little bit of art in the form of stamped triangles. Also, I made a salad with fresh rocket from our vegetable garden. Pat on the back for me because up until three months ago, the only plant that survived in my hands was a cactus. I feel I have a lot to be proud of, especially my little dude who is talking up a storm these days and learning to appreciate days filled with music and Sunday afternoon burgers with the family.

Easter at the village

Easter in Cyprus is very much about traditions so there really isn’t any better place to celebrate this time of year than up in the mountains at Georgie’s grandparents summer house in the village. Families come together, many beers and kilos of meat are consumed and little cousins play in the back of pappou’s pickup truck. Of course I doubt anything could compare to the day he sat on a horse for the first time.

progress

Yesterday, Sunday, was a busy day for us and our new home. Georgie’s name day is tomorrow so it was the perfect excuse to invite friends and family over for a feast! The little get-together was also a good excuse for me to ‘fix up’ a couple of rooms and finally frame some posters. The Ali and Inglorious Basterds posters are Mike’s productions. Thanks mate!

rain, babies and forklifts

There is so much catching up to do on this little blog of mine. Shall we start with the weather? It’s been lovely and extremely wet these past few days. However, that subsequently meant that once Georgie was down for the evening I would make a little excuse about the rain, curl up in bed and watch The Walking Dead instead. Excellent tV show, by the way. I desperately wanted to take the 5 second walk to my mum’s where i can use the internet -because we still do not have a connection at the house- but zombies can be highly addictive, you know.We visit papa and Georgie’s grandparents at their workplace regularly and Georgie always ends up on the forklift with his pappou. However, over this past week he has taken this activity to another level. His face is dead serious as he turns the steering wheel and looks straight ahead. He really thinks he is driving it! It’s hilarious to watch.                                                                                                                      Little dude has also become an expert on taking pictures with my iPhone. This is his very first of me! Changing his nappy.By far the highlight of our week was the birth of this little lady. Her mama is one of my besties. So proud of you agapi. xxx
