Home style inspiration: Patio Oasis

This summer, we’ve been spending most of our time at home, entertaining friends and family and of course a newborn. While we’re lucky to have a home with a garden and a patio, said patio needs some serious summer lovin’.

I’ve found ways to spruce it up, on a budget and with little maintenance. I love the idea of plenty of colourful throws and cushions, various lanterns, fairy lights and potted plants, rugs and wall decor pieces too. Here’s what inspired me:

Favourite storage solution: Baskets

A friend and I were heading out to dinner one night when she asked me how and where we store our shoes in our house. She told me that her kids seem to ignore the shoe rack she’s placed in the mud room and she’s running out of patience and ideas. I have one word for you, I said: Baskets.

Home inspiration: Gender-neutral nurseries

When I can’t sleep- which has been happening more and more as the weeks go by- I’m busy pinning. And lately there’s been a shift from beauty products to baby rooms – even though from experience I know that there is no hurry to get a nursery up and running as baby will undoubtedly spend the first four months at least in our bedroom. There will be quite a few of us so I’ll want to save on table space but if you’re having a small gathering by all means go all out and fill that baby up with candles, vases of flowers and twigs and other decorative pieces! Take a look at the pictures that are inspiring me and whatever you do don’t forget about the kids! I can’t wait for Georgie and his cousins to see their little table setup, inspired by the last picture.

Christmas blackboard inspiration

The walls of our guest toilet room are blackboards. You may remember when, over one intense weekend, I painted it myself. And may I add how I have not regretted it for a moment. Friends and family have a field day scribbling on the walls. Our family loves leaving notes and little sketches for each other. Georgie has been practicing writing letters and forming words and I adore finding his pictures and little designs. But there’s one particular space, right over the toilet, which is just for me. Every now and then I like to take the time to create something big and nice. So I’m looking for some inspiration this season.
