Food

A new year food resolution

One of my resolutions for 2013 was to stop throwing out food. Buying too much and ultimately forgetting about it is an awful habit and one that most of us are guilty of. Since moving houses, having a semi-organised kitchen and becoming more involved in cooking, I am aware of what I purchase and use. There is still room for improvement though and that’s why I get excited when I stumble upon food-saving tips. Simple and easy to do, some of these tips will save you money and others will add a natural healthy touch to your dishes.

Kiddie shop alert: Boyz & Girlz boutique

When it comes to dressing Georgie every new season, I tend to rely on high street stores like Zara and Mango. Both stores stock basics that I like and that Georgie can usually wear for more than just a few months. But I can’t say I am fond of the lack of originality, which means that I am always on the hunt for something different, softer, funkier and cooler. Quality, of course, is my top priority. His clothes need to be able to withstand constant laundry washing and everyday use. All these requirements seem to be fulfilled by a new shop I have sourced out. The Boyz & Girlz Boutique in Engomi, Nicosia is an absolute gem and seeing as I am totally obsessed with my new findings, the lovely owner, Aliki, has allowed me to share some photos.

The Parent Hood//03

In Denmark, babies sleep outside while parents dine and wine inside. Just one of those fascinating parenting methods from around the world.

I am not sure if this is ongoing but a Positive Birth Group is always worth checking out if you’re in Cyprus and expecting.

Steven Spielberg to direct The BFG! I can barely contain my excitement even though it won’t be out until 2016.

what georgie wore

It’s uncommonly cold here on the island. I’ve been running errands all day -including changing my hair colour; natural hues were inspiring me- and relishing the moments of wooly hats and warm leggings. We did some shopping in the morning because I needed to stock up on all-in-ones for Georgie. He’s outgrowing everything!  I picked up a few long-sleeved t-shirts from Benetton -including this awesome black Thor shirt- as they had a 50% discount and some pj’s from Debenhmas. A Happy Meal was our food of choice for lunch and an early afternoon nap followed shortly after. Wrap up warm, guys. There might be a chance of snow!

to market, to market

When I was about ten, one of my favorite role-playing games was shop keeper. My sister and friends would hang all our mother’s clothes around a bedroom, pull a desk out and start counting pretend money and trying on fancy dresses. I loved making price tags. And guess what? I still do!    I will be attending and participating (!) in the Ledenes Street Market in old Nicosia on October 6. A very good friend of mine is organizing this exciting event which is happening for the second time. You may remember the pictures I took last May of gorgeous vintage and second hand finds. I loved the atmosphere which was like one big party but including happy and guilt-free shopping so I jumped at the opportunity to clean out my closet and have some fun. X and I are enjoying the preparation and planning. We cut up some old wrapping paper for the price tags and using my trusty old Ikea cardboard boxes for a tidy presentation.Clothes, accessories and shoes will be in our corner but you are sure to find homemade goods and quirky trinkets throughout the market. Oh do stop by if you are in town. Wouldn’t it be great to see more and more of these little markets popping up around? Show your support!
