Be Happy Be Healthy – Do 30 minutes of yoga everyday

Over the past two months I have slowly brought back into my life a real feel-good practice: yoga. I don’t have time to get myself to a class anymore but that won’t stop me from taking 30 minutes out of my day to treat my body.

It took me some time to figure out that it is almost impossible to get anything done with two young kids at home let alone tune out and do yoga. So after some experimenting I discovered that, after 6 pm when the two babies are in bed and before I start serving dinner, that is the perfect time to roll out my yoga mat and begin. Georgie who goes to bed at 7.30 pm sometimes joins me too.

So how do I practice yoga from home? It helps that I know the basics, after attending classes for the last two years, so an app was the best way to go for me. I use this one, which is free and great if you’re a beginner too. But I also go to YouTube if I want to target a specific area like my lower back pain which I suffer from right now as a result of bad posture and carrying babies around for the last two years.

So soon after I put the youngest ones down for the night I pull my yoga mat out -which is the only ‘accessory’ I need- I lower the lights in the room and I take 30 minutes to let go. Of everything! It’s the single most stress-free moment of my entire day and I absolutely love how it makes me feel during and after.

P.S During my pregnancy with Georgie over eight years ago I did Pilates and continued all the way until I was pregnant with James at 38 weeks. It’s an amazing form of exercise I swear by. However  I was unable to attend the same classes during my next pregnancy with Danny so I switched to yoga which again I did until one week before I gave birth.
