Four common child fears and how to tackle them

Fears might be rational or irrational in children. Getting your youngster to overcome anxieties is frequently easier than you think.

However, if you don’t face your concerns head-on, it can turn your life into a nightmare.

Here are some of the most frequent anxieties that children have, as well as how to deal with them.

Doctors and Dentists

It’s important to note that fear of the dentist is a recognized phobia! I should know because I have it. It isn’t just children who are afraid of visiting these specialists. Adults can despise it as well You might believe that with smaller children, you can avoid going to the dentist. After all, you may be under the impression that their baby teeth will fall out anyway.

You must, however, ensure that your child’s gums are healthy. You’ll also want to make sure you know if your child needs braces.

Finding a dentist or doctor who is family-friendly such as Wahroonga Family Dental Centre will make your children feel at ease. This is the key to them not been scared or anxious.

The Dark

Why do humans have a fear of the dark? This is, in fact, an intrinsic fear that has existed for thousands of years. We were safe all day long while we lived in caves. The night, on the other hand, was black and terrifying. Being afraid of the dark wasn’t illogical back then because this was when predators came out to play. Giving your child coping methods to deal with a worry like this is critical.

In their bedroom, you might want to install a night light. Alternatively, you could demonstrate that there is nothing hiding in the shadows.

Being By Themselves

The dread of being alone, especially at night, is frequently linked to a fear of the dark. Children, on the other hand, maybe afraid of being alone throughout the day. For example, kids may not want to go to school because it requires them to leave you.

Don’t worry, this fear will pass quickly, and all you have to do now is reassure your child that nothing bad will happen to them and that you will always come back for them. Temper tantrums in young children can also be avoided (or at least tamed!) using this method. Being on time to pick them up and providing a full breakfast in the morning will go a long way toward assisting them in this regard.

Creepy Crawlies

Finally, your youngster may be scared of bugs and other small animals. Again, this isn’t something that only happens throughout childhood. However, if you can address this concern when your children are young, things will be much simpler for them. They won’t be scared of the small critters who come to your house from time to time. It takes a lot of patience and risk to get your youngster to grasp a spider. However, if you do this step correctly, it could be beneficial.
